A route shaped around you

Choose a setting, then shape the session.

These guides are starting points, not fixed itineraries. You can also suggest VinWonders, your resort or another setting; the team will check suitability and the operator’s requirements.

01

Start with where you are staying

Share your hotel area and transport plans. One main area leaves more time for photography; a session does not need to combine the north and south of the island.

02

Choose the feeling of the photographs

Colourful architecture, seaside streets, sand and fishing-coast settings tell different stories. Guide images help explain your preferences; they do not promise identical conditions.

03

Plan around the people

Tell us about children’s ages, prams or wheelchairs, walking comfort and rest needs. The specific access route needs checking before it is confirmed.

04

Keep a flexible alternative

Choose timing around light, the forecast and venue activity. Agree a sheltered alternative or rescheduling arrangement under your booking terms.

Character & style

Two beaches, a shared white-sand palette—and different ways to plan the photographs.

Choose between two white-sand settings in southern Phu Quoc for couples, families, wedding portraits or a commercial shoot. Compare the atmosphere, light, access and preparation before choosing your stretch of beach.

Best light

Start by considering early morning for portraits, then check the exact stretch, shade and forecast. Bright sand reflects plenty of light; later sessions need their own lighting plan, not an automatic sunset-over-water promise.

Travel & access

Khem and Sao are separate beaches in the south of the island. Confirm a map pin, entrance and meeting point for the chosen beach. Being nearby does not make a transfer, resort entrance or second location part of every session.

Public-space reality

Sao has public and privately managed areas. At Khem, check the requirements of any resort or operator whose grounds or facilities you want to use. Neither beach guarantees an empty background or private use.

Weather & backup

Agree a sheltered setting or a date change before the session. Moving from Sao to Khem—or the reverse—is not a guaranteed weather solution; access, conditions and travel still need checking.

Choose your setting

Khem or Sao? Start with the photographs you want to bring home

White sand, the sea and coastal greenery give both beaches a natural starting point for couples, solo travellers, families and small groups. Keep the plan centred on one accessible stretch so walking, conversation and photographs have room to unfold.

Sao can suit a beach-led story with palms, loungers and everyday seaside activity. Khem can suit a shoreline or resort-connected session when the selected area is available. These are creative directions, not promises that every part of either beach looks the same.

For a wedding portrait or proposal, choose the background and privacy needs first. For commercial imagery, start with the intended use, equipment and people involved so location permissions can be checked before production.

Light & weather

Work with the light, not just the colour of the water

Early morning is a useful starting point for a comfortable portrait session. White sand can bounce strong light onto faces as the sun rises, so we plan the direction of the photographs and rest breaks as carefully as the background. Clouds can change the mood without making a session unworkable.

Rain, wind, tide and wave conditions need checking close to the date at the selected beach. A dry-season booking is not a weather guarantee, and the colour or clarity seen in a photograph may not repeat. Afternoon photographs can still work, but the sun’s position must be checked rather than promising a sunset directly behind the couple.

Once you have chosen a location, discuss your goals and session scope through Holiday Photography or Proposals & Celebrations. Confirm your itinerary and access arrangements before booking.

Two beaches, two arrivals

Confirm the entrance—not just “the white-sand beach”

Use separate map references for Khem Beach and Sao Beach. The meeting notes should identify the chosen entrance, parking or drop-off, walking distance and return transport. A map pin is an orientation aid, not confirmation that a gate or resort route is open to your group.

At Sao, restaurants, beach furniture and public activity affect the available backgrounds. At Khem, a resort-based plan needs the relevant property’s agreement; a room booking does not automatically cover a professional shoot. Crowd levels change at both beaches.

If you would like photographs at both, tell us before booking. The transfer, access arrangements, outfit changes and remaining light need to fit the agreed duration. One well-chosen beach is often a more relaxed plan than rushing between two.

Permission & comfort

Plan styled setups and access needs before arrival

A portrait on the sand is different from a styled wedding set or commercial production. Flowers, furniture, lighting, models, exclusive areas and drone work need separate checks. JW Marriott publishes photography and drone rules for its Khem Beach property; those rules are not a policy for the whole beach or for Sao. Ask the operator of the actual setting for current permission and any charges.

Soft sand and steps can be difficult for wheelchairs, prams or anyone with limited mobility. Share walking comfort and support needs early. Check the full route from vehicle to shooting position, along with shade, seating, toilets and a place to change; none should be assumed from the beach name alone.

Couples, families & weddings

Leave room for movement, breaks and the details that matter

For couples, a walk and a few simple interactions can give the sequence a natural rhythm. Choose comfortable fabrics, secure loose accessories against wind and bring footwear suitable for the approach. Water, sun protection, a towel and spare clothes help with heat, sand and sea spray.

For families, keep the route short and allow breaks around children’s energy. A responsible adult remains close to children, especially near water; the photographer does not provide childcare or water-safety supervision.

For wedding portraits or a proposal, agree styling, setup time, privacy and cleanup with the venue and suppliers. The floral scene shown here is an example of a styled portrait, not an included decoration package or a guarantee of that exact setting.

A flexible plan

Keep the feeling of the session, even if the setting changes

If open sand becomes too windy or uncomfortable, consider a sheltered position or an indoor setting that has already been agreed. Shade under trees is not shelter from a storm. We stop outdoor work when conditions are unsafe and discuss the next step under the booking or production agreement.

Khem and Sao can be alternatives in a south-island plan, but switching is a decision—not a default escape from rain. Check the other beach’s conditions, access and travel first. A date change or a setting at your accommodation may be more useful than spending the session in transit.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are Khem Beach and Sao Beach the same place?

No. They are separate beaches in southern Phu Quoc with a shared white-sand character. Choose and confirm the specific beach, entrance and meeting point.

Can we photograph at both beaches in one session?

We can consider it before booking. Travel, access, setup time and light must fit the agreed scope; a second location is not automatically included.

Which beach is better for wedding or proposal photographs?

Choose according to the intended backdrop, privacy, styling and permission—not the name alone. Either requires a confirmed plan for any floral set, furniture or exclusive area.

Does a resort stay include permission for a professional shoot?

Do not assume so. Ask the relevant property about the crew, equipment, intended image use, areas and any fees before confirming a resort-based session.

Will the beach be empty and the water clear?

Neither is guaranteed. Weather, season, waves, time and local activity change the background. Library photographs show particular moments, not daily conditions.

Can young children join a beach session?

Yes, when the plan suits their needs and conditions are safe. Keep breaks, shade and water available and arrange close adult supervision. Tell us about prams or mobility needs beforehand.

What if rain or wind changes our plan?

We review a previously agreed sheltered option or rescheduling under your booking terms. Moving to the other beach requires checking its conditions and access too.

Ready to plan?

A relaxed session starts with a clear conversation.
